Gruesomely Gripping Tales

Gruesomely Gripping Tales

Stories with monstrous horror.

Welcome, maven of the malevolent! The passing of time is a cruel but sure-handed judge of what has staying power in this ever-evolving existence, and one such battle-tested anchor is storytelling. While some tales fade like a smooth-worn headstone, others worm into your psyche, pepper your nightmares, and leave you crying out for more, more, more!

We at Macabre Spirits are proud to heed that call. Don’t be fooled by how short these stories seem; we dare you to read them and be able to forget!

Rare, Fine & Limited

RARE, FINE, & LIMITED
by Mike Flanagan

Yes, that Mike Flanagan (The Haunting of Hill House, The Fall of the House of Usher, Doctor Sleep, Midnight Mass… need we go on?) believed in Macabre Spirits so much that he stepped outside of his comfort zone to write his first-ever novella, Rare, Fine & Limited, for our first release, a desert sotol. And what a story he delivered! Truly a worthy addition to the oeuvre of this modern master.

A mysterious business card. An eccentric proprietor. A private room with one red door, guarding access to the most expensive wines in the world. A tasting most would kill to attend, but for Frankie Fuller… a bore. He’s simply not impressed—until the final pour.

A bottle so rare, so fine, so limited, not even a professional hedonist of the highest order like Fuller has ever tasted anything like it. A sip into the mind of a serial killer… and he has to have more.

Hell Is Not Mocked

HELL IS NOT MOCKED
by Christopher Buehlman

We couldn’t believe our luck when renowned horror author Christopher Buehlman (The Blacktongue Thief, Between Two Fires) agreed to write a tale of terror for our second release, a Texas whiskey. Careful with this one – you may never head out into the desert again!

Texas, 1882. Hangings aren’t so rare in these violent times, in this lawless land, but this one will be… unusual. It isn’t every day that an outlaw gang double-crosses its boss and delivers him to the noose. But then, it isn’t every outlaw boss who describes himself as a “Priest of Hell” and claims to enjoy the protection of a powerful devil.

When a man who’s supposed to be put in the ground goes up instead of down, and when the dead come knocking for revenge, you’d better be ready to run… and keep running.

BONUS BOOKS!

So you’ve finished our first two stories. Don’t worry – more will be coming, and soon. In the meantime, may we recommend a few longer tomes to while away this spooky season?

The Blacktongue Thief

THE BLACKTONGUE THIEF
by Christopher Buehlman

If you’ve never read any other books from our good pal Christopher Buehlman, this novel is a hell of a good time (see what we did there?) and not coincidentally, also goes quite well with whiskey.

Kinch Na Shannack owes the Takers Guild a small fortune for his education as a thief, which includes (but is not limited to) lock-picking, knife-fighting, wall-scaling, fall-breaking, lie-weaving, trap-making, plus a few small magics. His debt has driven him to lie in wait by the old forest road, planning to rob the next traveler that crosses his path.

But today, Kinch Na Shannack has picked the wrong mark.

Carrie

CARRIE
by Stephen King

Huh, why would we recommend this book? In a company co-owned by Matthew Lillard, that works with Mike Flanagan? Could there be a reason coming up soon on a television screen near you? Hmmm…
