Introducing Andrea Stewart, the Author of Season Two of Our Saga
What drew you to fantasy as a genre?
I was always the lonely, nerdy kid, so of course the escapist nature of fantasy appealed to me. I much preferred hanging out with Tanis and Raistlin in a tavern to dealing with the vagaries of middle school. I started writing my own stories on my dad's old computer in the basement, and from then on, I was hooked.
What do you hope people see in your work?
I hope I can convey that sense of awe, that wonder, and just the fun of existing in and exploring an entirely different world with different peoples and landscapes. Fantasy is the ultimate "what if?" and I especially enjoy writing messy characters who have to deal with the extremes of that question and are just doing their best.
How did you get involved with Quest’s End?
When Matthew reached out to me, it sounded like such a fun project. I spent many evenings in college playing D&D, and really fell in love with the world and the storytelling involved. Combine that with whiskey? Absolutely yes!
How was working on this story different from your normal process?
My normal process generally involves making up the weirdest world I can think of and then making it as accessible as possible. Here, there was a world already created, though there were spaces left unexplored. It was a lot more collaborative, which was quite fun, as I'm used to working like a solitary goblin in a cave, hunched over my keyboard, unfit to be seen.
What was the most interesting part of working on Ebeyeros’ story?
Definitely the setting and the character. When we discussed what the druid's story would look like, a voice jumped into my head. Someone gruff and grumpy and tough, who would deny having any softness to him even as he made sure your blanket was covering your feet so they wouldn't get cold.
What is your favorite class to play in D&D and why?
Funny enough, it's a druid! I've most often played a druid, and a barbarian after that. I enjoy being the tank in a party, but I cannot deny the siren song of wild shape.
How do you like your whiskey?
Neat!
