For Find Familiar’s Master Blender Molly Troupe, blending is an art, a science, and an act of love

How did you get into distilling and blending?
After deciding I didn’t want to use my chemistry degree for forensics, I instead went to school in Scotland and got my Master’s in Brewing and Distilling. I have been fortunate to be in the industry even since, starting in Quality Control and eventually both distilling and blending.

What do you love about distilling and blending?
I love that both blending and distilling are interdisciplinary. They combine science and art, physical labor and deskwork, all in order to create something special. That isn’t even to mention the agricultural component and the challenges in creating a product where all its ingredients change on a yearly basis. It is beauty and madness all at once!

What makes the spirits you blend for Find Familiar Spirits unique?
The spirits I blend for Find Familiar Spirits are unique because the guidelines are based on stories and characters. It gives a lot of room to create flavors as I am not necessarily beholden to a category like Bourbon. For example, for Druid the goal was to create something “green” and for that I wanted to combine a four grain bourbon with a rye whiskey. Along with some finishing barrels, the flavors pulled together to create something delicious, green, and fun.

What exciting things can our Quest’s End fans expect in Season Two?
Other than the previously mentioned Druid, there are all sorts of spirits to expect! We are searching the world far and wide for the best spirits to bring these stories to life.

What class would you play?
Either a Bard or a Paladin.

What’s your favorite horror movie/book?
My favorite horror movie is Insidious or The Sixth Sense.

What’s your favorite drink?
I’m very seasonal when it comes to my favorite drink but with warm weather, I will never turn down an Aperol Spritz, made with gin and sparkling water instead of Champagne.
